Summer Associates

Many of our lawyers began their careers through our firm’s summer associate program. Our summer associates become an integral part of the firm during their time with us, working with attorneys and business professionals across all practice areas.

A member of the Hiring Committee acts as the Summer Associate Coordinator and oversees the assignment of individual projects. We make every effort to accommodate practice area interests expressed by our program participants, keeping in mind the available projects and the needs of each group.

Position Overview

The HCMP Summer Associate program is designed to recruit law students who will join the firm as associates after graduation. To that end, participants engage in a rotational program format. This affords them the opportunity to work with professionals across our practice groups so that they develop an understanding of what our firm’s lawyers do. Typical projects might involve:

  • Performing legal research and analysis
  • Drafting memoranda, transactional documents, pleadings, or other documents
  • Attending meetings, hearings, or other matter-related events, and
  • Performing other tasks to help lawyers achieve client goals.

The firm gathers feedback on every project completed during the program. To help participants become acquainted with our lawyers and other business professionals—and vice versa—we host a series of social and networking events throughout the summer. At the end of the program, we evaluate each individual's overall performance with the goal of extending offers of employment after graduation.

Our program is expected to last a minimum of eight weeks, starting in mid-June 2027 (depending on students’ availability).

Compensation

The salary for this position is $3,000 per week.

HCMP is pleased to offer the following benefits to its summer associates:

  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Commuter expense assistance for mass transit and parking.
  • Paid sick leave and holidays. We provide one hour of sick leave for every 40 hours worked. We also offer 10 paid holidays and one floating holiday per year.
  • Hybrid work

Application Process
Our program is open to law students from ABA-accredited law schools who will be 2Ls in the summer of 2027.

Applicants are asked to submit the following documents to recruiting@hcmp.com as part of their application:
