Gov. Jay Inslee Appoints HCMP's Michael Scott to King County Superior Court

Gov. Jay Inslee today announced the appointment of HCMP attorney Michael Scott to the King Court Superior Court. He replaces Judge Jeffrey Ramsdell, who is retiring. The appointment is effective April 1, 2018.

Mike is chair of the Hillis Clark Martin & Peterson P.S. Litigation Group. He also serves as an arbitrator and mediator and as a court-appointed special master.

“I am very excited and grateful that Governor Inslee has appointed me to the King County Superior Court. Serving as a judge has long been a professional goal of mine,” Mike said. “After 35 years of practice with HCMP and active involvement with the King County bench and bar, I am thrilled to be able to combine my commitment to public service with a profession I love as a King County Superior Court judge.”

Mike represented the plaintiffs in Ingersoll vs. Arlene’s Flowers before the Washington State Supreme Court, a case holding that anti-discrimination and consumer protection laws were violated. He has litigated other commercial and contract disputes involving trademark and copyright infringement, software quality, employment discrimination, product liability and environmental litigation.

Mike is a board member for the Kitsap Economic Development Alliance, a member of Puget Sound Regional Council Growth Management Policy Board and a member of the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency Advisory Council. He is also a Bainbridge Island City Council member, a position that he has today resigned, effective March 31, 2018.

“Mike has taken on some very difficult and important cases,” Gov. Inslee said. “He has a varied legal career and consistently demonstrated his commitment to community and equality.”

Mike received the King County Bar Association President’s Award and Seattle Business Magazine Community Impact Award, both in 2015. He received his law degree from Stanford University where he also received his bachelor’s of sciences and bachelor’s of arts degrees.
