In that case, the trial court ruled in favor of HCMP’s pro bono clients Robert Ingersoll and Kurt Freed, a gay couple who were turned away by Arlene’s Flowers when they sought flowers for their wedding. The Court held that the florist violated Washington State anti-discrimination and consumer protection laws. The court also ruled in favor of the State of Washington in a tandem enforcement action filed by the Attorney General. The historically significant ruling received international media coverage. HCMP attorneys Mike Scott, Jake Ewart, Amit Ranade, Kurt Kruckeberg, Andy Murphy and Michael Edwards have spent hundreds of hours working on the case.

The Supreme Court will hear the case in the Carlson Theatre at Bellevue College. The case is first up on the docket, and argument is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am. HCMP Litigation practice chair Mike Scott will argue on behalf of Ingersoll and Freed, and Attorney General Bob Ferguson will argue for the State of Washington.
