The Litigation team representing the plaintiffs in the historically significant Ingersoll v. Arlene’s Flowers case has been honored with the KCBA President’s Award. The King County Bar Association annually bestows its highest honor to those making a tremendous impact on the practice of the law and the administration of justice.

In February, the court found that the florist who refused to provide flowers to a gay couple for their wedding had violated state anti-discrimination and consumer protection laws. HCMP Litigation practice chair Mike Scott, and attorneys Jake Ewart, Amit Ranade, Kurt Kruckeberg, Andy Murphy and Michael Edwards spent hundreds of hours working on the case on a pro bono basis. They, in addition to Sarah Dunne and Margaret Chen from the American Civil Liberties Union, and Todd Bowers, Kim Gunning, Noah Purcell and Sarah Shifley with the Washington Attorney General’s office, were recognized with the award.

In presenting the award, the KCBA noted, “while the case will ultimately be decided by the Washington Supreme Court, the admirable work of the attorneys being honored with this award is consistent with the proud tradition of KCBA in standing against discrimination and this team fully deserves this recognition.”
