Highlights
Appointed as pro bono counsel for former employee of U.S. Customs and
Border Security in appeal before the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit,
challenging dismissal of claims on summary judgment. Prepared briefing
and delivered oral argument relating to the Federal Tort Claims Act, preemption
under the Civil Service Reform Act, and various state law claims.
Defended engineering consultants in parallel civil actions before federal
district court and AAA dispute resolution, which involved former employer's
claims for breach of contract, misappropriation of trade secrets, and
Lanham Act trademark infringement. After a full hearing on the merits,
obtained a full defense verdict, including an award of costs.
Delivered oral argument before the Washington Court of Appeals in matter
involving the Federal Arbitration Act and state-law preemption issues.
Represented
various brokerage and financial services firms in a variety of matters
in state and federal court and before NASD, NYSE, and FINRA arbitration
tribunals.
Recognized as a "Rising Star" by Washington Law & Politics,
a legal and professional publication, in 2008.
Through the Innocent Project Northwest, worked on the case of Ted Bradford,
the first convicted person exonerated based on DNA testing in Washington
State.
