Summer Associates

Our experience in hiring new associates through our summer associate program has been very positive. We have also hired first-year summer associates through the Puget Sound Area Minority Clerkship Program.

Summer associates at HCMP become an integral part of the firm during their time with us, working with attorneys in each of the firm's practice areas. A member of the firm's Hiring Committee acts as the Summer Associate Coordinator and oversees the assignment of individual projects. We make every effort to accommodate practice area interests expressed by our summer associates, keeping in mind the available projects and the needs of each practice group.

The firm attempts to provide each summer associate with at least one long-term project that evolves over the course of the summer. Although most summer associate work assignments tend to involve research and writing, the firm makes an effort to ensure that summer associates get the opportunity to visit the courthouse and to have direct contact with clients.

An important part of the summer associate program at HCMP is for summer associates to get to know both the firm and the City of Seattle. We provide a number of social opportunities for summer associates, so that they will be able to work with us and play with us. By the end of the summer, each summer associate will have a realistic view of what it is like to be an attorney at HCMP.

"The people here are good mentors. They're truly interested in seeing you become a great lawyer."

--A summer associate
